It was no surprise to hear chants in Spanish. Nathy Peluso is barely known in Britain, but in Spain and Argentina, the Grammy nominee and Latin Grammy winner is on a fast track to superstardom. By her standards overseas, this was an intimate gig.
In truth, the venue could barely contain her. Bursting at the seams with stylish fans trying to salsa on the balconies before Peluso had even appeared — in the stalls, they were squeezed in like sardines — Shepherds Bush Empire was the buzziest I’ve ever seen it.
Peluso had only to walk on stage to raise the roof. In skin-tight black, wearing fingerless leather gloves, goggles and heeled boots, she could have come from the set of Mad Max.
